Great piece. It is really easy to get sucked into that trap on Medium -- of worrying about how every piece is gonna perform stats-wise, how many views it'll get, how much money it will make. And I totally agree that obsessing over these things can suck the fun out of writing.

I'm in a conundrum, though, because as much as I'd like to not focus on making money, I have to pay the bills, too, you know? Being able to make a living is what will enable me to continue being a writer in the long-term. But I never want to give up on making art.
