For sure, it can. That feeling of "screaming into a big void" can become really intense sometimes.

And, yeah, seriously -- it would be great to be able to write without worrying about whether we'll ever make money from it. But we don't all have that luxury, you know? For those of us with bills to pay, at some point, we do need our writing to bring in some money, or else we can't keep doing it.
